The Houston Astros achieved a no-hit shutout on Monday, marking their fourth consecutive win. Starting pitcher Tatsuya Imai played a pivotal role by pitching six innings, with relievers Steven Okert and Alimber Santa taking over to keep the Texas Rangers hitless. The Astros defeated the Rangers 9-0, marking the first no-hitter in Major League Baseball since an event in September 2024, where Shota Imanaga and two Chicago Cubs relievers secured a 12-0 victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates.
In August 2024, Blake Snell achieved the last complete-game no-hitter by holding the Cincinnati Reds without a hit. Regarding the Astros, Tatsuya Imai contributed to the 17th regular-season no-hitter in the team’s history, with this being the fourth to involve multiple pitchers. Houston’s pitchers also combined for a no-hitter during the 2022 World Series against Philadelphia.
Okert took charge in the seventh inning after Imai successfully retired 16 consecutive batters. Despite walking three of his first four batters, Imai steadied his performance, aided by a double play in the initial inning. Alimber Santa debuted in the major leagues in the eighth inning, efficiently retiring all six batters he faced. His final pitch, which secured the victory, was confirmed as a strike during an ABS challenge.
This performance marked the sixth time the Texas Rangers were held without a hit, dating back to Corey Kluber’s no-hitter for the New York Yankees on May 19, 2021. Tatsuya Imai, 28 years old, is experiencing his first major league season following his transition from Japan. He joined the Astros in January with a three-year, $54 million contract after showcasing his talent as a three-time All-Star in Japan’s Pacific League with the Seibu Lions.
