Hugh Laurie acknowledged being ‘slightly drunk’ when he engaged with a critic of the television show ‘House’ on social media. The incident began with British journalist Janet Murray, who posted a screenshot of her article on UnHerd titled, ‘What I learnt from my online fight with Hugh Laurie.’
The online discussions started after Murray shared her review of ‘House’, a series in which Laurie starred from 2004 to 2012. On Monday, Murray tweeted that Laurie’s response had led to ‘some fairly horrific trolling.’ Laurie later issued a detailed public apology via a tweet.
‘I’m sorry if people have been having a go at you because of my tweet. Not at all the plan. I was very slightly drunk and already upset about something that had nothing to do with you,’ Laurie explained and noted his appreciation for the writers of the show.
Murray responded, recognizing the apology and expressing no hard feelings.
Date of the disagreement was June 6, with Murray stating her thoughts on the first season of ‘House’ via social media. She highlighted the repetitive narrative where House diagnoses the wrong illness initially, only to find the correct diagnosis later in the storyline.
Laurie replied humorously, mentioning that episodes where House gets the diagnosis right the first time were short and unsatisfactory to NBC. Attempts where House never manages to diagnose correctly and the patient dies were similarly unpopular with audiences.
The discourse lasted several days before both parties reached an amicable resolution.
Hugh Laurie, renowned as Dr. Gregory House from the medical drama ‘House’, gained fame through comedic collaborations with Stephen Fry in ‘A Bit of Fry & Laurie’ and ‘Blackadder.’
