Hunter Mahan’s New Golf Journey

Hunter Mahan stepped away from the PGA Tour in 2021, openly admitting to being burnt out by the relentless demands of professional golf. Over the last five years, he embraced life at home, found satisfaction in coaching high school golf, and recently felt compelled to return to the game in a new role. Mahan, a six-time PGA Tour winner, ventured into the realm of golf content creation in June. He has been sharing videos documenting his journey back into golf and offering instructional content, amassing an Instagram following of over 55,000.

In an interview with OutKick, Mahan shared, “My wife captured some videos and said, ‘You’re showing interest, maybe you should play more.’ So, I headed to the course the next day, recorded that first video, and discussed my thoughts. The response from everyone was overwhelmingly positive, surprising us both.”

Mahan is not only enjoying his foray into golf content but also considering a future competing on the PGA Tour Champions. With over five years until he becomes eligible for the senior circuit, the prospect of returning to professional competition is appealing. “I am exploring various opportunities and determining my place in golf today,” Mahan explained. “With over five years until the senior tour, I might pursue that. Competing on the Champions Tour could be fun because many friends of mine who turn 50 around the same time could join.”

Mahan continues to explore his options, seeking the best way to share more golf content. He has engaged in numerous discussions with diverse individuals about his endeavors. The reaction from the golf community, both professional and amateur, has added enjoyment to his journey. “It’s been exciting to see the golf community react and engage with this content,” he remarked.

Previously ranked in the Top Five of the Official World Golf Ranking in 2012, Mahan would receive immediate status on the PGA Tour Champions upon turning 50, due to his six PGA Tour victories. He achieved his initial Tour win at the 2007 Travelers Championship, with his final victory at The Barclays in 2014.
