Indiana University maintained its grip on the longest active winning streak in college football. The No. 7 Indiana team narrowly overcame Nebraska, clinching a 20-17 win on Saturday at Memorial Stadium. This victory preserves Indiana’s unbroken run since their last defeat in the initial round of the 2024 College Football Playoff.
The game presented a tough challenge for the defending national champions. Indiana had remained untroubled in their last eight contests, not having fallen behind since the 2025 Big Ten Championship Game against Ohio State.
Indiana’s Performance
Indiana extended its streak of victories to 27 straight games against unranked teams. Their last defeat in this category came on November 25, 2023, against Purdue. Current head coach Curt Cignetti boasts an impressive 33-2 record with the team.
Quarterback Josh Hoover delivered a crucial performance, completing 12 of his 22 passes for 263 yards and securing two touchdowns. A standout segment was his coordination with wide receiver Nick Marsh, who caught six passes, contributing 187 yards and two touchdowns to the effort.
First Half Struggles
The Indiana offense, however, faced difficulties in the first half. They executed only 17 plays, managing 115 yards in total. Nico Radicic’s 42-yard field goal in the first quarter marked their only points in this initial phase.
Nebraska’s Strong Start
Nebraska initiated the challenge with a constructive start. A 28-yard field goal from Kyle Cunanan capped a 13-play, 66-yard drive, giving them an early lead. Subsequently, wide receiver Nyziah Hunter scored with a 10-yard run, leading to a 10-3 advantage. Although Nebraska had another opportunity to extend their lead before halftime, Cunanan’s 40-yard field goal attempt veered wide.
Second Half and Indiana’s Rally
Indiana’s second-half kickoff saw them advancing into Nebraska’s territory, ending only in another Radicic field goal from 35 yards, narrowing the score to 10-6.
A pivotal moment unfolded with Nebraska’s quarterback, Anthony Colandrea. On a third-and-16 from the Indiana 36-yard line, Colandrea’s pass was intercepted by Jamari Sharpe, halting Nebraska’s momentum and keeping Indiana in contention.
Nebraska capitalized on favorable field positioning briefly, pinning Indiana deep with effective punts. Yet, in the fourth quarter, Indiana’s Josh Hoover made a decisive play. A 75-yard touchdown pass to Nick Marsh narrowed the lead to 17-13.
In response, Nebraska’s offense failed to regain control. Indiana seized their first lead with a strategic play-action pass, where Hoover linked with Marsh again for a 44-yard touchdown, changing the scoreboard to 20-17.
Continuing with less than five minutes left, Nebraska’s desperate fourth-and-9 gamble from their own 44-yard line fell short. Indiana’s defense sealed the outcome with a sack on Colandrea, marking another defensive triumph.
Nebraska, now at 5-1, faces No. 13 Oregon next week. Meanwhile, Indiana prepares for a significant matchup against No. 5 Ohio State.
