Inside the IDF’s Captured Weapons Storage: A Glimpse of Conflict Arsenal

Fox News Digital secured access to the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) Tzrifin Base in Central Israel. This base holds a large cache of confiscated weapons used by Hezbollah and Hamas. The inventory includes rockets, grenades, drones, sniper rifles, automated weapons, anti-tank launchers, and mortars.

The weaponry, sourced from Iran, Russia, China, and local producers in Lebanon and Gaza, as well as a Nazi-era gun, was used against Israeli civilians and the IDF. The conflict intensified following Hamas’s attack on southern Israel on October 7, 2023. The IDF reports that Hezbollah also used these weapons against Lebanese civilians. Both groups are part of Iran’s ‘axis of resistance’ and have been linked to the deaths of over 300 American citizens.

The Multi-Front Conflict

Iran and its proxies waged a multi-front war against Israel. Iranian rockets struck civilian areas in major cities, including Tel Aviv and Be’ersheva. This assault occurred after a US-Israeli attack on Iran in late February. Tehran retaliated by firing a ballistic missile into Beersheba, injuring 19 people.

Seized Weapons of Historical Origin

The IDF uncovered a German World War II MG-34 machine gun at a Hezbollah base in Lebanon. Lt. Col. (res.) Idan Sharon-Kettler, commander of the Captured Equipment Evacuation Unit, noted the small swastika emblem on the gun. The MG-34, along with the Nazi-era MP 44 assault rifle, served as propaganda tools for Iranian-backed terrorists.

Modern Warfare Tactics

Vehicles transformed into offensive weapons were a tactic used by Hamas and Hezbollah. Dual-use technology, suitable for both civilian and military functions, fuels their operations. Sharon-Kettler highlighted a motorcycle captured in Israel, which had been used to take hostages during the October 7 attack that resulted in over 1,200 deaths, including more than 40 Americans.

ATVs and Drones

The IDF seized all-terrain vehicles (ATVs) employed by Hezbollah to transport rockets. These ATVs, capable of carrying multiple rockets, provide strategic advantages in Lebanon’s hilly terrain. Mortars and drones from Iran were also on display. Sharon-Kettler explained that some drones serve to divert IDF resources by creating disturbances.

Arsenal and Equipment Seized

The IDF’s haul includes Russian AK-47 rifles and its variants, as well as Iranian and Russian sniper rifles. Sharon-Kettler pointed out many advanced Austrian Steyr sniper rifles found in Hezbollah’s possession, and their Iranian copies. The IDF also discovered Chinese and Russian submachine guns and anti-tank launchers.

The confiscated items feature uniforms from Syria, China, and Lebanon, along with helmets, vests, and medical kits, contributing to the IDF’s captured collection.

Geopolitical Implications

Sharon-Kettler addressed Israel’s presence in Lebanon, asserting the need to cleanse the area of military entities targeting civilians. A ceasefire agreement in November 2024 aims to resolve hostilities, but tensions remain due to the ongoing presence of Hezbollah.

Efforts to disarm Hezbollah continue with US-led talks scheduled in Rome, aiming for a phased IDF withdrawal from southern Lebanon. Despite sabotage attempts by Hezbollah, the dialogue represents progress in reducing regional tensions.
