1 hour ago 0

Five individuals were found fatally shot late Friday at a residence in South Georgia. This discovery has sparked an ongoing investigation by law enforcement authorities.

Police officers arrived at a home on Robin Lane located in the Touchton Woods neighborhood at approximately 11:09 p.m. Upon arrival, they found five people suffering from gunshot wounds, according to a post shared on social media by the Douglas Police Department (DPD).

Local news outlet Douglas Now indicated that investigators are currently approaching the situation as a probable murder-suicide. As of Saturday morning, police have yet to publicly identify the victims or reveal any information about a possible suspect.

The Coffee County Sheriff’s Office described this incident as a ‘terrible tragedy’ in a statement provided to FOX 5 Atlanta.

The statement expressed condolences to the families and friends who lost loved ones, and urged people to pray for them as well as for the first responders who dealt with the incident. It characterized the scene as challenging for all involved.

Douglas is situated in Coffee County in southern Georgia. The city is around 115 miles northwest of Jacksonville, Florida, with an estimated population of 11,864 according to the U.S. Census Bureau’s July 2025 estimate.

Efforts to gather further details were made as Newsweek reached out to the DPD and Coffee County Sheriff’s office for additional information by email on Saturday.

Rash of Mass Shootings

The tragic events come in the wake of several recent instances of shootings with multiple victims across Georgia. Additionally, a deadly mass shooting occurred Friday night in Erie, Pennsylvania, claiming nine lives, including two children.

According to the Gun Violence Archive (GVA), a mass shooting is defined as an event where at least four individuals are shot, whether injured or deceased, not counting the shooter.

The fatalities in Coffee County represent the third consecutive weekend that Georgia has reported a mass shooting or incident involving multiple gunshot victims.

Last weekend, a shooting during a homecoming celebration in Vienna, Georgia, roughly 80 miles northwest of Douglas, resulted in two deaths and injuries to another 35 individuals. The shooting transpired during a neighborhood party covering four blocks and began at approximately 1:25 a.m.

Another shooting at an 18th birthday event in Carolyn Crayton Park in Macon on September 27 led to injuries among 12 teenagers. Five suspects had been charged in connection with this incident, including a 15-year-old who faced charges as an adult, according to FOX 5 Atlanta. Macon is located about 60 miles north of Vienna and 115 miles north of Douglas.
