Joe Manchin Opposes Supporting Socialist Candidates

Former West Virginia Democratic Senator Joe Manchin expressed his firm stance against supporting any self-described socialist candidates. During CBS’ “Face the Nation,” he made his position clear, stating, “No way,” when asked if he would ever back a socialist.

Host Margaret Brennan questioned whether he would consider supporting a socialist if they had good ideas. Manchin replied, “I support the good ideas, but how could you support some of the crazy stuff they’re for?” He continued by questioning the platform of socialist candidates, suggesting they aim to dismantle the government structures, including Congress and the Senate.

Manchin emphasized the need for a crime-free environment and a strong defense, necessitating the presence of police and a strong border. He highlighted the importance of current energy production, asserting that world reliance on U.S. energy has grown.

Heather Manchin, his daughter, also voiced concern on the show. She criticized the Democratic Party leadership for not saying “No” to far-left candidates and socialists. Heather stated, “Control has now completely outweighed character,” pointing to the consequences of prioritizing control over character.

The Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital’s request for comment. However, candidates supported by the DSA have recently gained traction in Democratic primary elections.

A recent Fox News poll indicated that 52% of Democrats held a favorable view of socialism, compared to 41% for capitalism. Among registered voters, 30% favored socialism, showing a slight increase from the previous year’s 27%.
