Joe Rogan Questions U.S. Military Strategy and Its Impacts on Iran Conflict

Podcaster Joe Rogan recently raised concerns about the U.S. military campaign against Iran during an episode of The Joe Rogan Experience. He argued that there is “no clear way” to end the war. During his conversation with journalist Annie Jacobsen, Rogan agreed with her views regarding the potential “fundamental warping” of the U.S. military.

Rogan stated, “Yeah, without a doubt. And also, no clear way to resolve this—at all. And it seems like our stockpiles are running dry. You know, bases are getting blown up by drones.” He added, “The real problem is it makes America an enemy and it makes us less safe because America has done this thing, this unprovoked attack, and now, they have a reason to attack back.”

Newsweek reached out to the White House for comment but received no response. A request sent to the State Department was redirected to the White House.

Criticism of President Trump

Rogan’s remarks add to his ongoing criticism of President Donald Trump’s handling of the Iran conflict. Earlier this year, Rogan questioned the administration’s military strategy, deeming it nonsensical and questioning the motives behind it.

During his discussion with Jacobsen, Rogan suggested that the war has uncovered vulnerabilities in America’s military readiness, citing alleged drone attacks on bases and concerns over weapons stockpiles.

Robert Y. Shapiro, a professor at Columbia, told Newsweek Rogan’s comments could impact Trump’s support slightly, but the situation in Iran is already evident to those likely influenced by Rogan.

Shapiro described Rogan’s comments as further evidence that the war is not progressing as planned and unlikely to succeed according to expectations.

Polls Reflect Growing Opposition

Public support for Trump’s Iran policy has declined. A recent Quinnipiac University poll indicates that 34 percent of voters support military action against Iran, while 60 percent oppose it. These numbers mark the highest opposition and lowest approval levels recorded since March.

Among independents, 26 percent support the military action, versus 69 percent who oppose it. Trump’s approval rating on the issue is 28 percent, while disapproval stands at 66 percent.

The Quinnipiac poll surveyed 963 registered voters nationwide between July 23 and July 27, with a margin of error of 4.1 percent.

A YouGov/The Economist poll conducted earlier this month showed Trump’s approval on Iran at 31 percent and disapproval at 59 percent. It surveyed 1,616 U.S. adults from July 10 to July 13, with a margin of error of 3.3 percent.

June’s poll showed Trump’s approval score on the issue at 34 percent, with a 55 percent disapproval rating.

Rogan’s Influence and Views

As a leading podcast host, Rogan’s critique carries political weight, given his previous support for Trump. Before the 2024 presidential election, Trump appeared on Rogan’s podcast, and later, Rogan endorsed him.

Regarding military action against Iran, Rogan has said it “just doesn’t make any sense” unless it serves another interest, such as Israel’s. “It just seems so insane based on what he ran on,” Rogan commented, referring to Trump.

He noted frustration among many who feel betrayed by Trump’s promise to avoid new wars. “This is why a lot of people feel betrayed, right? He ran on no more wars and these stupid, senseless wars, and then we have one that we can’t even really clearly define why we did it.”

Rogan’s repeated questioning reflects a broader debate over whether the conflict aligns with Trump’s promise to avoid perpetual wars. As public opinion continues to divide, Rogan’s statement that there is “no clear way to resolve this” resonates beyond his audience.

Current Military and Diplomatic Situation

The Iran conflict remains a volatile issue despite ongoing diplomatic efforts, with tensions still active across the Middle East. The Associated Press reported no new U.S. strikes on Iran overnight, but Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps claimed attacks on two oil tankers in the Strait of Hormuz. Additionally, Kuwait intercepted drones, highlighting the possibility of increased regional tensions.
