The Pittsburgh Steelers have welcomed back Aaron Rodgers for another season. Joe Theismann, a Super Bowl champion, identified Mike McCarthy as the main factor behind Rodgers’ decision. At 76, Theismann explains that Rodgers may not have returned without McCarthy’s presence.
“Aaron’s return seemed obvious because Mike McCarthy is there,” Theismann shared with Fox News Digital.

Theismann emphasized that if a different coordinator were present, Rodgers might not have come back. With McCarthy, Theismann believed there was a strong chance for Rodgers’ return. The duo spent 13 years together with the Green Bay Packers. Their familiarity ensures a seamless transition and eliminates the need for Rodgers to learn a new system.
Rodgers proved his prowess last season as a four-time NFL MVP. He completed 65.7% of his passes, amassing 3,322 yards with 24 touchdowns and seven interceptions over 16 games.

While Rodgers’ arm remains strong, Theismann noted that his mobility at 42 isn’t what it used to be. He highlighted the importance of the offensive line in protecting Rodgers.
“Rodgers must release the ball swiftly, but the offensive line needs reinforcement,” stressed Theismann. For Rodgers to perform optimally, he requires time to make plays.
Despite a new head coach for the Steelers, Theismann expects the team’s core identity to remain consistent.
“Pittsburgh will continue its tradition. Their tough mentality won’t waver. They’re a resilient team in a challenging division. Aaron’s toughness is evident,” Theismann commented.

Throughout his 12-year NFL career with the Washington Redskins, Theismann was a two-time Pro Bowler and 1983 league MVP. He led the Redskins to a Super Bowl victory in 1982 against the Miami Dolphins.
Theismann will participate in the American Century Championship from July 10-12 at Edgewood Golf Course, broadcasting on NBC and Peacock.
