Kansas City Chiefs Face Backlash Over Signing Kicker Justin Tucker

1 hour ago 0

The Kansas City Chiefs’ decision to sign embattled kicker Justin Tucker to their practice squad has sparked significant controversy. Tucker, previously suspended for ten games after accusations of sexual misconduct from 24 women, has joined the Chiefs amid ongoing struggles with their current kicker, Harrison Butker.

Some view the Chiefs’ move as prioritizing victory over ethics. Craig Carton from OutKick raised concerns about the Chiefs’ motives, questioning if their approach means winning at any cost. He emphasized that Kansas City’s reputation suggests they might prioritize talent over character.

Carton noted, ‘A guy like Justin Tucker — 24 different women accused him of inappropriate sexual misconduct. The NFL doesn’t like suspending its players, no matter what the crime is. Yet, they suspended him for ten full games. Is winning worth this association?’ Carton criticized the Chiefs and their owners, the Hunt family, asserting they seem indifferent to community and player character.

The Baltimore Banner in January 2025 reported accusations from 16 massage therapists about Tucker’s behavior from 2012 to 2016. Additional allegations surfaced the following month with seven more women coming forward. Despite denying the claims, Tucker faced suspension due to the allegations, drawing parallels to the case of Deshaun Watson.

While Tucker avoided criminal charges or civil lawsuits, his time with the Baltimore Ravens ended in May 2025. The Ravens stated their decision not to keep him was based on football performance. Some critics point out the Chiefs’ past dealings with controversial figures, such as Kareem Hunt and Tyreek Hill, as part of a pattern.

On the field, the Chiefs, led by coach Andy Reid, recently faced a loss to the Seattle Seahawks but maintain a strong record in the AFC West. The question of Butker’s status as the starting kicker remains, especially given his recent performance issues.

Tucker, despite a tough year in 2024, boasts an illustrious career, recognized as one of the sport’s top kickers. His field goal percentage ranks as the second-best in NFL history, underscoring the Chiefs’ reasons for considering his talent.
