Katy Perry’s Apology for Canceled Belgium Concert
Pop star Katy Perry was scheduled to headline at Belgium’s Werchter Boutique festival but had to cancel hours before due to severe weather forecasts. In an Instagram post, Perry apologized to her fans, explaining the government mandated the cancellation for safety reasons. She shared her disappointment, adding, “Sadly my set @WerchterBoutique tonight can’t happen due to a government mandated cancellation because of the incoming inclement weather and crowd safety concerns.”
At the time, Perry was backstage, preparing for her performance, and expressed her frustration at the unexpected news. Despite her disappointment, she emphasized the importance of the safety of the 55,000 attendees, noting, “Unfortunately this is beyond my control, but the safety of all 55,000 of you always comes first and foremost.”
Significance of Performance
This performance would have marked a return to Festivalpark Werchter for Perry after 17 years. Her last appearance was in 2009 during the Rock Werchter festival. In a personal touch, she had planned to wear the same outfit from her debut solo tour performance.
In her Instagram post, Perry included a backstage photo in a white robe over striped pants, alongside her unused stage costume. The statement from Werchter Boutique clarified that after Pitbull’s performance, the festival would conclude by 9 PM to ensure attendees leave safely before severe thunderstorms predicted later in the night.
Context of Recent Performances
The situation unfolded weeks after Perry performed at the FIFA World Cup 2026 opening ceremony in Los Angeles, where she debuted her song “Wonder”. Her boyfriend, Justin Trudeau, attended the event, supporting Perry. They watched Team USA’s soccer match against Paraguay, celebrating the team’s victory.
Perry’s latest single, “Watch It Burn”, has been recently released, with her current European tour including various festivals and solo concerts. Her next concert is scheduled at DEPOT Live at Cardiff Castle in Wales.
