Initially offered a different show after his time on Cheers, Grammer was advised by John Pike, then-president of Paramount, to continue portraying Frasier. Pike expressed dissatisfaction with an alternative script idea and suggested Grammer should play Frasier instead, leading to the spin-off series.

‘It’s funny, I had visions,’ Grammer explained. ‘I had been offered another show. We wrote a different story, and I thought it was kind of funny.’

Grammer shared how moving Frasier to Seattle helped distinguish Frasier from Cheers, providing reasons for his son Frederick’s limited presence. This creative decision ensured Frasier didn’t seem neglectful while emphasizing his path to self-discovery.
