President Donald Trump recently shared a video on his Truth Social platform, which appears to be AI-generated. The video depicts several explosions on Kharg Island, Iran. However, Iranian sources report no U.S. military strikes on the island over the weekend.
Kharg Island being blown to smithereens!!!
Trump’s post came late Sunday. Kharg Island lies just 15 miles from the Iranian mainland. It plays a key role in Iran’s economy, responsible for 90% of Tehran’s oil exports. The recent tension began on Sunday with exchanges of strikes between Washington and Tehran, the first since late July. The U.S. aims to pressure Iran into an agreement using economic sanctions.
Hamid Bovard, the chief executive of the National Iranian Oil Company, dismissed Trump’s post as “laughable,” assuring that operations on Kharg Island continue normally. The U.S. Central Command (U.S. CENTCOM), responsible for overseeing American forces in the Middle East, did not confirm attacks on Kharg Island. They noted instead “limited, precise action” against Iranian minelaying in the Strait of Hormuz.
Capt. Tim Hawkins, a U.S. CENTCOM spokesperson, stated the U.S. targeted two Iranian launchers on Larak Island, within the Strait of Hormuz. In response, Iran’s military declared it attacked two Jordanian air bases with ballistic missiles, claiming to inflict “heavy damage.” On a separate note, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) reported stopping a tanker that attempted to traverse the southern edge of the Strait of Hormuz after it was hit by two naval mines.
This report marks a developing situation, further details are expected to emerge.
