The Park Ridge Farmers Market started its season on May 23 with a cool morning, offering a pleasant atmosphere. While there were concerns about the absence of the AT&T parking lot at 36 S. Prairie Avenue, the change did not impact the event’s operation. Attendees found ample parking around the venue.
Despite light drizzle and clouds, locals attended the market’s annual opening. Previously, there was debate about relocating after AT&T reclaimed its lot, yet the market retained a familiar feel. This year, the setup shifted slightly west toward Garden, near Cumberland Park, adding features like picnic tables, live music, and food from nearby vendors.
Vendor Sentiments
Nick Cataudella, owner of Nicky C’s Red Hots, expressed satisfaction with the new arrangement. By 9 a.m., his hot dog cart drew a crowd, and picnic tables filled up quickly as food lines stretched along Garden.
Market organizers noted that three to six vendors typically change each year, often due to expanding into permanent stores. Karen Grunschel, a co-master of the market, shared her enthusiasm for the new season. Her counterpart, Stephanie Goodrich, mentioned ongoing adjustments based on feedback from vendors and visitors.

As different crops come into season, the variety of products will evolve. Currently, many vendors offer potted herbs and cut flowers, with seasonal favorites like berries and beans available later.
Longstanding Participants
Tidey Farms, a 35-year market veteran, is known for its year-round offerings, utilizing greenhouses for early tomatoes and other produce. Kathy Tidey, affiliated with the farm, anticipates more summer fruits and vegetables as the season progresses.
Customers continue to visit the market regularly. Meg Rickman from Chicago found parking was not an issue, even without the AT&T lot. Having frequented the market over the years, she noted that she typically bicycles to the event, though driving also proved convenient.
