Maher Criticizes Far-Left Over Mask Policy Backlash

Bill Maher, the comedian and host, took aim at far-left critics targeting a Massachusetts lesbian bar for its decision to have one mask-optional night each week. During his show, Real Time, Maher discussed the controversy surrounding Last Ditch Bar and Arts Venue in Greenfield, Massachusetts.

The Boston Globe reported backlash against the bar after it lifted its mask mandate on Saturdays to help financially struggling business. Maher highlighted the bar’s mission statement, noting the inclusion of diverse groups but joking about the order of listing friends and workers last.

Here’s what’s going on at the Last Ditch Bar. It’s a very woke bar, which is fine. Their mission statement [is], ‘For dykes, transsexuals, gender freaks, workers and friends.’

Maher commented on the financial struggles the bar faces. Despite having a cover charge, the bar let in patrons who couldn’t afford to pay. Homeless individuals were welcomed, but the bar enforced masks.

The weekend mask-optional change aimed to boost business. In an attempt to remain open, one of the owners reportedly ended up living in her truck due to financial losses.

Maher critiqued the reaction to the change, pointing out the intolerant behavior from some patrons. Comments included severe accusations, such as claiming that the owners harm disabled people for leisure.

The backlash included criticism of a mediator present at a community meeting, with some objecting to a White therapist’s involvement. Maher questioned the understanding of the situation by far-left patrons and criticized their intolerance.
