Martha Stewart has stirred up social media with her straightforward approach to deli-style potato salad. An old cooking clip resurfaced on her Instagram on April 3, showing Stewart creating what she calls the “best potato salad.” This uncomplicated recipe requires only six ingredients.
For this salad, Stewart uses potatoes, a medium white onion, half a cup of white vinegar, and a cup of Hellmann’s mayonnaise. She also includes half a teaspoon of salt and a teaspoon of sugar to balance the flavors.
Stewart begins by combining the onion with vinegar, salt, and sugar. “Pour this mixture over the potatoes and slosh it around,” she instructs. In about 10 minutes, the liquid gets absorbed by the potatoes. Then, she adds a cup of Hellmann’s mayonnaise and mixes the salad by tossing the potatoes.
Her mother, Martha Ruszkowski, tasted the salad, calling it “very good.” Stewart describes the dish as “deli-style,” drawing on her memories of growing up near Jersey City.
Social media users are divided on this recipe. Some find it too plain, while others appreciate its simplicity. One commenter stated, “I guess I’m just too Southern for these potatoes,” while another said, “Looks horrible.” Conversely, a user expressed their intention to make the salad, calling it “wonderful,” and another praised it as a “great recipe.”
Fox News Digital contacted Stewart for comments on the debate.
Martha Stewart is accustomed to culinary controversies. Last summer, she discussed whether ketchup belongs on hot dogs, affirming, “I love hot dogs with the works.” Previously, her approach to eating bagels—open-face with cream cheese—sparked jokes about putting her “back in jail.”
