Milwaukee Brewers Set Record with 22-0 Shutout over Mariners

1 hour ago 0

The Milwaukee Brewers achieved a remarkable feat on Tuesday night, equaling the modern-era record for the largest shutout in baseball history with a 22-0 victory over the Seattle Mariners. This incredible win was powered by key performances from Christian Yelich, David Hamilton, and Luis Lara, who each hit three-run homers, as well as Jake Bauers with a two-run homer.

Bauers played a pivotal role, scoring the Brewers’ first run in a dramatic sequence during the opening inning. With two outs against Bryce Miller, he doubled, then proceeded to score when a throw to home plate from left fielder Randy Arozarena beat him by a large margin. Bauers managed to tap catcher Cal Raleigh’s mitt during his slide, causing Raleigh to drop the ball, allowing Bauers to dive back to the plate and claim the run.

“This win adds to the Brewers’ impressive 78-48 season record, tying their franchise’s run record in a single game,” noted a team analyst.

The history of baseball saw only two previous 22-0 victories. The Pittsburgh Pirates accomplished this against the Chicago Cubs on September 16, 1975, while Cleveland defeated the New York Yankees on August 31, 2004. Tuesday’s game repeated this rare shutout milestone.

Milwaukee’s offensive explosion continued with Yelich hitting a three-run homer in the fifth inning, building a 6-0 lead. Hamilton followed with another three-run homer in the sixth, extending the lead to 9-0. Bauers added to the tally later in the inning with his 22nd homer, making it 11-0. Notably, Milwaukee scored nine runs in the eighth inning, highlighted by Lara’s career-first homer.

Pitching for the Brewers, Kyle Harrison delivered an impressive performance, allowing only two hits in five innings after conceding eight runs (three earned) in his previous outing. Relief pitchers Shane Drohan and Grant Anderson contributed effectively, with catcher Gary Sánchez finishing the game, working around two hits in the ninth inning with pitches often under 40 mph.

Hamilton recorded a career-high four RBIs, matched by Yelich and Lara, while Garrett Mitchell had an outstanding night with four hits.

Upcoming Matchup

Seattle’s right-hander Logan Gilbert, sporting a 9-7 record with a 3.28 ERA, will face off against Milwaukee’s right-hander Dustin May, who holds a 6-7 record with a 4.13 ERA on Wednesday.
