Mitchell Robinson Joins Boston Celtics After Knicks Championship Win

The New York Knicks’ recent championship-winning team has started to see changes for the first time in 53 years. The Knicks retained Jose Alvarado, but significant roster adjustments began with Mitchell Robinson. The defensive powerhouse signed a three-year contract with the Boston Celtics.

Robinson’s departure was acknowledged by former Knicks teammates such as Jalen Brunson, Josh Hart, and OG Anunoby on social media. Anunoby expressed sadness with a sad emoji, to which Robinson responded, indicating his desire to remain with the Knicks. He implied that the organization did not share his sentiments, writing, “I tried brother, I didn’t want this to happen. Hopefully the truth comes out at some point. I’m gonna miss you big dawg! Keep being great.”

James Dolan, owner of the Knicks, voiced early concerns about the team’s payroll. Right after the championship, he stated he was unwilling to exceed the NBA’s second salary cap threshold, describing it as “suicidal.” This pointed towards a future roster overhaul, with Brunson poised to compensate for a substantial pay cut he accepted for the sake of the team’s success.

Mitchell Robinson played a pivotal role in the Knicks’ championship win. He secured the final offensive rebound following a missed free throw, ensuring their victory against the San Antonio Spurs. Throughout his career with the Knicks, Robinson experienced various highs and lows, starting with his debut season as a second-round pick in 2018, when the team finished with a record of 17-65.

Moving forward, Robinson will join a restructured Celtics team, bringing with him the experience of a champion.
