Reporter Tricia Whitaker found herself in an unusual position on Friday night while covering the Baltimore Orioles’ game against the Detroit Tigers for Apple TV. During the game, Whitaker was struck by a line drive from Adley Rutschman. The impact left her with a bruised forearm.
She shared photos on social media, showing the Orioles’ medical team attending to her injury. In her post, she humorously acknowledged Rutschman’s impressive exit velocity and mentioned her temporary stint on the injured list with forearm discomfort. She expressed gratitude to the medical staff for their prompt care.
Saturday’s game was postponed due to rain, providing Whitaker with some extra recovery time. Despite the interruption, Baltimore secured a 7-4 victory on Friday, with Rutschman contributing two hits, including the infamous line drive.
Whitaker later posted an Instagram update, sharing her upbeat mood with followers as she prepared for the Indy 500. The accident didn’t dampen her spirits, although she might invest in a catcher’s gear for future games.
