Netflix has announced a new addition to its content lineup by acquiring a spinoff of the popular YouTube series ‘Hot Ones.’ This series, known for its celebrity interviews conducted over increasingly spicy chicken wings, is hosted by Sean Evans. The new adaptation titled ‘Hot Ones: Extra Heat’ will coincide with major live sporting events or significant premieres on Netflix.
The inaugural episode is scheduled for July 13, following the Major League Baseball All-Star competition’s Home Run Derby. By integrating this spinoff, Netflix continues to challenge YouTube, which holds the title of the most-watched streaming service on US television, placing Netflix as a close second, according to Nielsen.
Netflix’s recent strategy includes collaborating with YouTube-born creators, turning them into Netflix figures. Previous partnerships include children’s host Ms. Rachel and science presenter Mark Rober. Sean Evans assures fans that ‘Hot Ones: Extra Heat’ will maintain familiar elements of the original series but on a grander scale with a larger budget. This enhanced version departs from the usual studio setup, opting for diverse venues, with the first episode set in a college baseball stadium.
The new show’s episodes will maintain a roughly 30-minute format, continuing to feature celebrity guests undertaking the challenge of consuming scorching wings, providing added spectacle in each segment.
