NFL Teams Face Early-Season Challenges: Which Ones Should Panic?

The NFL season is short, with only 17 games. Starting 0-2 is a serious issue for teams. Since the league expanded the schedule in 2021, 40 teams began a season with two losses. Only eight of those teams reached the playoffs, translating to a 20% chance of making it after an 0-2 start.

This low success rate has fans and teams worried. Reporters feel the pressure as their predictions hang in the balance. But not every winless team should panic. Let’s look at which teams need to worry and which ones may stay calm.

Los Angeles Chargers

The Chargers should be concerned. John Harbaugh, the coach, has never faced an 0-2 start before. New offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel is not adapting well. His strategy isn’t working for quarterback Justin Herbert, and tough games lie ahead.

Houston Texans

For the Texans, panic isn’t necessary yet. Under coach DeMeco Ryans, they have started slow before but still made playoffs in previous years. Yet, losing two home games early raises concerns. Their offensive line struggles, and their defense has dropped in ranking.

Indianapolis Colts

Tennessee Titans

Tennessee isn’t in full panic yet, though there’s reason for caution. The coaching staff is new, and QB Cam Ward is still early in his career. However, the franchise isn’t known for patience, having quickly moved on from previous quarterbacks and coaches.

Washington Commanders

The Commanders are desperate for positive news. They not only lost games but also lost quarterback Jayden Daniels to an elbow injury. Surgery may end his season and postseason hopes. The team needs favorable updates to avoid panic.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Todd Bowles typically remains calm even in dire situations. However, quarterback Baker Mayfield is different. He’s emotional and pressured by expectations from a new contract. This could lead to panic if performance doesn’t improve.

Atlanta Falcons

There’s no panic here yet. With the return of Michael Penix Jr., the Falcons have reason to hope. His performance will be crucial, and they need to improve results to maintain confidence.
