Nigel Farage Denies Role in Donation Scandal Amid Investigation

Nigel Farage, leader of the U.K.’s Reform party, has minimized his role in a donation scandal revealed through an undercover investigation. A journalist posing as a wealthy American’s son exposed the situation, raising questions about the source of political donations.

Farage told the BBC News during an interview that he was unaware of the details during a filmed conversation with senior aides now resigned. As per British law, donations can only come from U.K.-registered voters or companies. In the discussed scenario, the son qualified as a donor, but the father did not.

The investigation has led to the stepping down of two officials, James Orr and Dan Jukes, as Reform UK launches an internal inquiry.

“The money could come from all over the world, you know,” Farage said, emphasizing his knowledge of donation laws.

Both aides filmed in the conversation were inexperienced in fundraising, according to Farage, suggesting they should not have been involved.

The Channel 4 report has prompted the party to investigate. Jukes, known as Farage’s close associate, and Orr, a key conservative policy figure, have voluntarily stepped down. Both Matain their innocence.

In a radio interview with LBC Radio, Farage asserted the party’s adherence to laws, suggesting a case of entrapment manipulated over time. He expressed displeasure with the situation that led to the aides’ dismissal.

“The party has not taken any dodgy money or anything like that,” Farage claimed, defending the integrity of the party.

Jukes labeled the investigation as “entrapment” orchestrated by foreign-funded climate change activists. He insists on his innocence and has temporarily withdrawn from politics to safeguard his reputation.

Orr, in a statement to Sky News, promised cooperation with the ongoing investigation, having agreed to step down from his role.
