A North Carolina doctor was arrested on August 22 after allegedly firing into a Jeep during a road rage incident. The incident occurred on Interstate 77, leading to injuries for two sisters, ages 12 and 20, as reported by Virginia State Police.
Dr. Richard Thomas Arriviello, a 61-year-old resident of Charlotte, North Carolina, was driving north in a Mercedes-Benz around 8:50 a.m. Gunfire broke out approximately three miles from the North Carolina-Virginia state line. According to a police press release, Arriviello allegedly shot into the moving Jeep, hitting both sisters in the legs.
The victims were airlifted to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, as noted by the authorities.

After the shooting, Arriviello fled in his vehicle. Troopers later located and stopped the Mercedes-Benz about 15 miles away, where they apprehended him.
Arriviello faces multiple felony charges. These include malicious shooting into an occupied vehicle, maliciously causing bodily harm with intent to maim, and use of a firearm during a felony. He is currently held without bond at the New River Valley Regional Jail and will appear in court on September 29.
Authorities have not disclosed what led to the road rage incident or if a firearm was found in Arriviello’s vehicle. The Jeep’s driver received a citation for reckless driving, though their identity was not revealed.
According to North Carolina Medical Board records, Arriviello has been licensed as an emergency medicine physician since 2010. No public disciplinary actions are listed against him. He is identified as the owner of Family Urgent Care in Monroe.
