Ryan, whose family has significantly donated to Northwestern, highlighted that their contributions aided the stadium’s creation. Northwestern contributed $300 million towards the $875 million total cost, with the Ryan family covering the majority of the balance.

Notably, the stadium’s funding did not require public money nor legislative negotiations, affirming independence in handling financial aspects. The primary request was permission to host six concerts annually, an attractive offer considering Evanston’s lower amusement tax compared to Chicago.

Despite some neighbor opposition, there were compromises with landscaping and ride-share logistics, yet the core plan proceeded. Some speculate neighbors might enjoy concerts from afar once the venue opens.

Ryan Field departs from traditional large, concrete stadiums in favor of intimacy, seating 35,000 fans. While rivals may critique this capacity, Ryan emphasizes the focus on enhancing experiences, aligning with the modern NFL model where attending involves more than just watching the game.

As construction advances towards the October opening, Ryan stated potential use by the Chicago Stars FC women’s soccer team remains undecided, dependent on Evanston’s approval. Community-driven events are also planned.
