An Oklahoma teenager is critically ill following participation in a viral social media trend known as the “Benadryl challenge.” This trend has led to several hospitalizations among children.
The challenge requires individuals to consume large quantities of Benadryl and attempt to remain awake through the resulting drowsiness, seeking a high. This practice can lead to severe consequences, such as seizures and cardiac arrest.
Leah Presson, aged 15, is currently receiving treatment in an intensive care unit in Oklahoma. According to reports from KFOR, multiple tests have indicated that she has no brain activity. Her father, Richard Presson, expressed his feelings to the outlet, stating, “I don’t even want to think about a funeral because I feel like there’s still hope and everybody’s like, giving up too soon… I believe in miracles, that she’s definitely a miracle baby.”
He further commented, “I just want everybody to be aware of where they can educate their kids. But these challenges are just silly, and they need to be educated so it doesn’t happen again.”
“This is a developing story. More to follow.”
