Kennedy High, Ocean View High, Savanna High, and Freedom Hall have opened as evacuation centers. Evacuees, like Denise Guerrero, describe relocating to multiple shelters and the need for better communication from authorities. Residents have been proactive in informing one another and sharing updates online.

Efforts to stabilize the compromised tank at the facility continue. Despite firefighters maintaining tank temperatures around 90 degrees Celsius, potential risks of explosion or chemical leak remain.

State of Emergency:

Governor Gavin Newsom declared a state of emergency to facilitate response measures and urged compliance with emergency officials’ guidance.

Timeline of Events:

Since the incident began, evacuation orders have expanded due to safety concerns surrounding a large tank containing methyl methacrylate, a chemical used in plastics. Initially addressed through a safety sprinkler system, subsequent issues with the tank’s valves have escalated the crisis.

Nathalie, an evacuee, voiced concerns about returning home and potential health hazards. Her family has taken shelter at Freedom Hall, emphasizing the cooperation and support provided by the community.

Authorities are employing advanced technologies like drones to monitor and control the situation. The community remains on high alert as local, state, and federal agencies coordinate responses to the unfolding situation.
