The New York Knicks Defend Taylor Swift’s Fandom

The New York Knicks have expressed strong support for pop star Taylor Swift, affirming her long-standing fandom for the franchise. This defense follows comments made by Knicks guard Tyler Kolek, who questioned her loyalty during a recent stream.

A Knicks spokesperson responded by stating, “Taylor Swift has been a Knicks fan for many years, has a long history with Madison Square Garden, and we are incredibly appreciative of her support of the organization.” The comments were directed at OutKick after Kolek described Swift’s fandom as performative and questioned her attendance at games.

Kolek, during a livestream with teammate Deuce McBride, identified Swift as a possibly fake celebrity fan, emphasizing that some people attend games more to be seen than to support the team. Despite this, Swift’s appearances at Madison Square Garden hold significance. Her presence is not frequent, but she participated in a 2003 halftime performance at 13, sat courtside in 2014 with Carmelo Anthony, and returned for the 2026 NBA Finals.

Furthermore, MSG celebrated Swift’s personal milestone, displaying “Just Married” after her nuptials with Travis Kelce in July 2026 at the venue.

Kolek, a 25-year-old guard in his third season with the Knicks, had aspired for success in Madison Square Garden prior to joining the franchise, leading Marquette to the Big East Championship there in 2023.

Despite any speculation regarding Swift’s dedication, her influence in the sports realm remains significant. The Knicks aim to preserve her fanship, recognizing its broader impact.
