Basketball Hall of Famer Paul Pierce believes the San Antonio Spurs should consider a significant lineup change to enhance their chances against the New York Knicks in the NBA Finals. Pierce shared his thoughts during his recent “Ticket & the Truth” podcast with former Boston Celtics teammate Kevin Garnett, following San Antonio’s first win in the series.
Pierce suggested that Dylan Harper should join the starting lineup. He expressed his opinion clearly, stating, “If I’m San Antonio, I’m bringing Fox off the bench. I’ve had enough. Dylan Harper is playing too good.” Despite Harper’s effective performance coming off the bench, Pierce emphasized the impact De’Aaron Fox has in keeping the Knicks competitive.
Pierce remarked, “He gotta make shots. I look at Fox as a scorer, bro. He is not hitting shots.” Fox has a reputation for scoring, and Pierce pointed out that his current struggles are not due to defensive tactics but rather his own shooting performance.
Game statistics show varied outcomes for Fox. In Game 2, his shooting was impressive, hitting 66.7 percent and scoring 20 points, despite the team’s close loss. Game 1 and Game 3 painted a different picture, with Fox scoring under 30 percent, leading to a 10-point loss and a narrow four-point win.
Fox’s recent injury setbacks have allowed Harper to start in several matches, proving his ability on the court. However, Fox’s veteran presence may still influence coaching decisions regarding the starting lineup.
Kevin Garnett credited the Knicks’ defense for Fox’s shooting woes, but Pierce remained unconvinced, believing that rearranging the lineup could shift the series advantage in favor of the Spurs.
