Dispute Over Attire

Davanzo, representing part of Westmoreland County, expressed surprise at House Speaker Joanna McClinton’s reaction to his red, white, and blue attire. During a session, Davanzo was informed by House Minority Whip Timothy O’Neal that his outfit was deemed inappropriate. House security later asked Davanzo to either remove his suit jacket or leave the floor. Davanzo chose to leave.

Several Democratic lawmakers privately expressed disagreement with his removal. Representative Jordan Davis of Gray’s Ferry commented on the jacket’s patriotic appearance, showing a difference of opinion within party lines.

Davanzo argued that thematic attire had been supported in the past, citing instances where pride colors were encouraged for photographs during Pride Month. He questioned the apparent contradiction, stating people are allowed to dress in various styles, yet his patriotic outfit resulted in ejection.

Davanzo highlighted that the Declaration of Independence was signed 250 years ago in Philadelphia, emphasizing his connection as a “Bicentennial Baby” born in 1976. He leads the America First Caucus in Pennsylvania’s State House, working on issues like onshoring manufacturing and establishing harsh penalties for crimes committed by illegal immigrants.

Davanzo introduced a proposal to distribute $250 checks to families in Pennsylvania in celebration of America’s 250th anniversary. He aims to represent constituents and embrace patriotism, questioning why his attire sparked such controversy.
