1 hour ago 0

The NBA preseason has begun, and the Philadelphia 76ers emerged victorious against the reigning champions, the New York Knicks, with a score of 120-97. Despite missing some of their key players, the 76ers managed to secure a commanding win.

Prior to the game, Knicks coach Mike Brown stated that almost his entire roster would participate, a promise he upheld as the starters each played 13 or more minutes. OG Anunoby and Jalen Brunson both contributed 12 points during their limited time. However, fellow starters Karl-Anthony Towns, Josh Hart, and Mikal Bridges managed just 10 points collectively.

In the locker room postgame, Jalen Brunson discussed the team’s performance, acknowledging the learning curve and the challenge posed by teams like the revamped 76ers. He remarked, “It’s a good first step. Not a great first step, but as long as we’re making strides in the right direction, it’s something to be happy about. Still a lot for us to learn and be better at early.”

This preseason match-up offered the Knicks a chance to gauge their progress and prepare for the upcoming challenges of the regular season. They anticipate a competitive environment, especially with the regular season debut of LeBron James and Jaylen Brown with the 76ers, and will host the 2026 NBA championship celebration at Madison Square Garden.

On the 76ers’ side, Jaylen Brown thrilled fans during his 17 minutes on the court, scoring 22 points by making 8 of 13 shots. VJ Edgecombe, in his second NBA season, played for 20 minutes, accumulating 12 points, seven assists, and four rebounds.

The two teams are scheduled for their regular season encounter in New York on Tuesday, Oct. 20, aiming to mark a victorious start to their respective campaigns.
