The Philadelphia Phillies revved up their game on Saturday, achieving a milestone after the recent managerial changes. Led by stars Kyle Schwarber and Bryce Harper, the team delivered an impressive 15-3 victory over the New York Mets. Their unmatched performance captivated fans and demonstrated the Phillies’ continued resurgence.
Kyle Schwarber’s incredible power was on full display as he hit three home runs. He achieved two of those in the third inning alone. His first homer traveled 456 feet, while the second soared 457 feet past Mets reliever Cionel Pérez. Later, Schwarber added to his tally with a two-run homer in the seventh inning. Schwarber now leads the major league with 28 home runs for the season, marking his fifth career game with three homers.
Bryce Harper, on the other hand, completed his first career cycle, a rare baseball feat where a player hits a single, double, triple, and home run in the same game. Harper started with a solo home run in the first inning. He continued with a double and single in the third, then capped his cycle with a two-run triple in the fifth inning. His achievement marks the eleventh cycle in Phillies history.
Pitcher Cristopher Sanchez contributed significantly to the team’s success by allowing just one earned run over six innings. His earned run average (ERA) now stands at 1.80. This outing marked his 23rd consecutive start at Citizens Bank Park with two or fewer earned runs, ranking as the second-best in MLB history since 1913.
Schwarber’s feat of hitting multiple home runs in a single inning places him as the 67th player in MLB history to achieve this, joining Houston’s Yordan Alvarez who did so on June 12 of this season. Schwarber also joins a select group of Phillies players who have accomplished two homers in one inning, alongside Trea Turner, Von Hayes, and Andy Seminick.
The clash between the Phillies and Mets will conclude with their series finale on Sunday night, beginning at 7:20 p.m. ET.
