The San Diego Padres currently occupy the last Wild Card spot. With approximately a month remaining, maintaining focus is crucial. Their record stands at ten games over .500, echoing last year’s successful push into the playoffs via the Wild Card. In the previous season, they began the second half eight games above .500. This year, they started at even and have now achieved a ten-game surplus.

Performance of Michael King

Today, the Padres are relying on pitcher Michael King to secure another victory. King’s 8-9 record comes with a 3.38 ERA and a 1.17 WHIP. Ranked 41st in the Majors with 128 strikeouts, he excels in home games and night matchups. His performance in night games boasts a 2.81 ERA over 93 innings. Against Pirates batters, King has allowed a .250 average over 40 at-bats.

Player Prop Option

One potential player proposition involves Brandon Lowe, who has struggled against King with only two hits in 13 at-bats and five strikeouts. While hesitations exist regarding his performance, such an option remains on the table. Overall, placing confidence in the Padres, especially with King’s solid home and night game performance, appears justified. Additionally, the Padres bullpen is more reliable than that of the Pirates. Thus, supporting the Padres in this matchup is prudent.
