Polymarket, a well-known prediction market, experienced a brief halt in trading on its international platform. This occurred Thursday when a security issue emerged involving a third-party software vendor. The pause lasted about an hour.
Discord, the official online chat forum for Polymarket users, buzzed with panic around 1:30 p.m. Users reported some wallets showing unexplained loss of funds. Polymarket assured affected users that they would be fully compensated for any losses.
Polymarket’s environment allows wagers on various events, from political outcomes to video game releases. When the incident arose, the platform switched to a cancel-only mode at about 2 p.m. In this mode, users could cancel transactions but couldn’t create new trade orders.
The issue was linked to DebugBear, a performance and debugging platform according to a source familiar with the situation. DebugBear operates from the United Kingdom. Polymarket has informed UK authorities about the breach.
Though DebugBear’s response was not immediate, it addressed the incident on social media. Users were warned to remove affected web-monitoring tools from their sites.
