Increased Russian Strikes in Ukraine
Overnight Russian attacks across Ukraine have led to the deaths of at least eight individuals and injuries to numerous others. The eastern Dnipropetrovsk and western Lviv regions experienced the most significant damage. These attacks are part of a pattern of heightened activity from Russia, with large-scale strikes occurring weekly during the summer.
Extent of Damage and Casualties
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported that the attacks hit multiple regions including Kyiv, Dnipro, Lviv, Poltava, Kharkiv, Mykolaiv, Sumy, Vinnytsia, Cherkasy, and Ivano-Frankivsk. Dozens of residential areas, businesses, and infrastructure were ravaged. The strikes involved more than 70 missiles and over 280 drones; 260 drones were intercepted. Despite a critical shortage of air defense material, Ukrainian forces showed commendable professionalism in their defense efforts.
Request for Support
Zelenskyy continues to urge international allies to provide more anti-ballistic missiles to help prevent such tragedies. In a detailed briefing, local officials in the Dnipropetrovsk region reported six fatalities, including three children, and ten individuals wounded. The victims include a 6-year-old girl and boys aged 11 and 17, alongside their parents. Two other children were rescued from the debris.
Further Details on Regional Attacks
The Poltava region saw a drone strike impact warehouses of a private establishment, resulting in one death. Another attack on a delivery hub ignited a fire, which was quickly managed with no injuries. Lviv’s missile attacks have led to 30 injuries, with residential buildings, a school, and kindergartens affected.
In Kyiv, missile strikes resulted in one fatality and additional injuries while causing significant property damage. Nearby Brovary district also suffered, wounding several individuals including a minor.
