Russia’s Missile Attack on Kyiv Leaves at Least 10 Dead, 46 Injured

At least 10 people have died after Russia launched missiles and drones at Kyiv overnight into Monday. Local officials reported 46 others injured as emergency teams searched for survivors in residential high-rise buildings. These buildings got hit directly during the attack.

In one incident, Russian missiles and drones struck Kyiv early on July 6, 2026, causing severe damage. Tymur Tkachenko, head of Kyiv’s City Military Administration, confirmed this in a Telegram post. He mentioned that these were residential buildings where people lived their normal lives. In the Podilskyi district, a residential building partially collapsed. The Darnytsia district suffered damage to several multistory buildings, with people trapped under the debris.

The attack involved waves of ballistic and cruise missiles, as well as drones, with explosions echoing across Kyiv. Civilians took cover in subway stations for protection. Early Monday morning, the assault was still ongoing.

Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy had warned of another large-scale attack hours before it happened. This warning followed a recent Russian strike that killed at least 31 people in Kyiv. The attack came just before a NATO summit was set to begin in Turkey. The previous assault was the most significant since Moscow’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

President Zelenskyy urged Western nations to strengthen Ukraine’s air defenses, particularly by supplying more Patriot missiles. He stated that not replenishing these defenses might encourage Russia to continue its four-year war, as he wrote in a Telegram post.
