Sean Payton to Present Drew Brees at Hall of Fame Induction

Sean Payton, now associated with the Denver Broncos, remains deeply connected to the New Orleans Saints. This was evident when a FaceTime call from an old friend stirred his emotions. Drew Brees, his former quarterback, reached out to ask Payton to present him at the upcoming Hall of Fame induction in Canton, Ohio.

“Honest to God, I can’t believe you just did that,” Payton expressed, visibly touched. “Yeah, absolutely man.”
“I can’t wait. I love you,” Brees responded.

Payton, speaking from the Broncos training camp, admitted he was “caught off guard.” He reflected on their 15-year collaboration, acknowledging the unique bond shared by a coach and quarterback. A lot of times, for a number of reasons, those relationships — quarterback-coach — you kind of take for granted. Yet, sometimes, oftentimes, they don’t end the way you want them to end.

Payton expressed pride that their relationship ended positively and regarded presenting Brees as an honor. Their partnership brought the Saints the 2010 Super Bowl title and consistently elevated their competitive standing in the NFC. Brees, a legendary figure, ranks second in passing yards, completions, and touchdowns before retiring in 2020.

Brees will enter the Hall of Fame alongside Larry Fitzgerald, Luke Kuechly, Adam Vinatieri, and Roger Craig as part of the Class of 2026.
