A seaplane carrying 11 individuals crashed off Washington state’s coast, injuring multiple people, including one critically, on Thursday. The incident occurred at around 5:30 p.m. when a Kenmore Air seaplane made an emergency landing and ignited near Sucia Island in the San Juan Islands.
The U.S. Coast Guard confirmed the emergency event, and the San Juan County Sheriff’s Office reported that the pilot and 10 passengers were rescued from the water. Injuries ranged from head trauma to broken bones and lacerations. Fortunately, no fatalities have been reported. One person remains in critical condition.
The de Havilland DHC-3 Otter aircraft experienced difficulties approximately 45 minutes after departing from Lake Union in Seattle. Kenmore Air decided to cancel all flights scheduled for Friday in response to the crash.
Kenmore Air CEO David Gudgel emphasized their priority in caring for those affected: “We are grateful that everyone aboard has been accounted for, and our immediate focus is ensuring our passengers and pilot receive the care and support they need.” He expressed gratitude to the U.S. Coast Guard, local emergency teams, and others involved in the rescue operations.
