Search Continues for Missing North Carolina Woman in Grenada

By July 27, 2026, Elizabeth Waddell, an American woman from North Carolina, was reported missing while vacationing in Grenada. She was last seen on July 22 at Grand Anse Beach in St. George’s, the capital city of Grenada.

Amanda Romano-Harmon, a friend of Waddell and family spokesperson, stated that surveillance video captured by the Royal Grenada Police Force reveals Waddell’s last known movements. The footage shows the 44-year-old heading towards the pier and entering the water. “It shows her floating, swimming around, but then she floats out of the camera view,” Romano-Harmon explained. This video represents the most recent sighting of Waddell.

Waddell was enjoying a three-week vacation with Heather Poole, a close friend. According to family accounts, Waddell departed from their Airbnb around noon. When she failed to return, Poole began searching and discovered Waddell’s towel but found no further indications of her whereabouts. Romano-Harmon noted that Waddell had left with only a swimsuit and a towel, without a phone, ID, or shoes.

Her husband, Cailen Waddell, and other family members have traveled to Grenada to assist in the search efforts. “My wife is a loving free-spirited person. She could make friends with anyone and she often did,” Cailen Waddell shared with local media.

Police are soliciting information from boaters and nearby residents regarding any observations related to Waddell’s disappearance.

The U.S. State Department is aware of and monitoring reports concerning the missing American in Grenada, according to a spokesperson.
