Actor Selma Blair, aged 54, was detained after causing a disturbance during a Delta Air Lines flight from Los Angeles to New York. The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey reported that Blair was taken into custody late Sunday night after the plane landed at John F. Kennedy Airport. She faced allegations of physically abusing and injuring two flight attendants.
Following the incident, both Blair and one of the affected flight attendants were taken to a local hospital for evaluation. Authorities have yet to receive a statement from the airline regarding the matter.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), tasked with handling all onboard assaults, declined to provide further details about the investigation. In a brief statement, FBI spokesperson Sydney Kleinmann mentioned that due to Department of Justice policies, no comments would be made on ongoing investigations.
No immediate responses were received from New York state and federal prosecutors regarding requests for comments. Additionally, efforts to contact Blair’s publicist remain unanswered.
Blair’s representative informed several media outlets that a medical emergency allegedly caused the event. Blair is well-known for her roles in films such as “Cruel Intentions” (1999), “Legally Blonde” (2001), and “Hellboy” (2004). Since being diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 2018, she has advocated for disability rights, joining President Joe Biden in 2023 to mark the anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act.
In 2016, Blair previously apologized for an incident on a flight from Cancun to Los Angeles after mixing alcohol with medication, resulting in a blackout.
