Serena Williams Expresses Interest in Doubles with Coco Gauff

Days before confirming her return to tennis, Serena Williams hinted at an exciting possibility at Roland-Garros. When Coco Gauff, 22, was asked about this, she expressed enthusiasm, saying, “That would be really cool. I’ve always regretted not playing against her. There are rumors, so we might find out soon. It would be amazing for the sport to have a legend back.”

Rather than competing against Gauff in singles, Williams, 44, expressed a desire to team up in doubles. During the Berlin Tennis Open, she said, “I would love to play with Coco. She was on my list of potential partners. I didn’t realize she was so focused on singles.”

Williams recently returned to the pro circuit after playing her first match since the 2022 US Open. Teaming up with Victoria Mboko, they secured a doubles victory at the HSBC Championships in London, only for their run to end due to Mboko’s knee injury. Williams then turned her focus to Berlin and announced this week that she will pair with her sister, Venus Williams, for doubles at Wimbledon.

Serena Williams holds 23 Grand Slam singles titles, the most in the Open Era. Together with Venus, she has won 14 doubles titles, including six at Wimbledon.
