Texas Engineer Fatally Stabbed in Park, Suspect Arrested

A 62-year-old engineer from Texas, Andrew James Wimsatt, was tragically stabbed to death on a park bench in Round Rock, Texas. The suspect, a repeat offender named Benedict Chinedu Ogbodiegwu, has been arrested on charges of murder and theft according to authorities.

Details of the Incident

The attack occurred on September 7, shortly after Wimsatt visited his mother in a nearby nursing home. Surveillance footage from the scene shows Wimsatt sitting on a park bench around 11 a.m. Moments later, Ogbodiegwu allegedly approached from behind and violently stabbed him in the neck. Wimsatt attempted to fend off the attack, but was unsuccessful. The suspect was seen on video walking away after wiping the blood from the knife onto his shirt.

Background of the Victim

Andrew Wimsatt held a Ph.D. in civil engineering and worked part-time with the Texas A&M Transportation Institute. He was known for his love of wildlife and vintage photography, and had connections with several Fox News hosts. Friends and Fox News personalities, including Greg Gutfeld and Kat Timpf, expressed their shock and sadness at the incident, highlighting Wimsatt’s kind and generous nature.

“He was so kind and generous it almost seems impossible,” Timpf said. “He always supported me… whether that was sending me clips I wanted to post or offering truly helpful words of encouragement.”

Investigation and Arrest

The Williamson County Sheriff’s Office reported that evidence, including fingerprints, bloody clothing, and the murder weapon, was recovered. Ogbodiegwu initially claimed a twin brother was responsible, but he could not substantiate this claim. His criminal record in the county dates back to at least 2017, involving theft and fake identification charges. He was released from jail in June this year before allegedly committing this crime. Ogbodiegwu is held on a $1 million bond with his next court date set for October 8.
