Senator Ron Johnson Critiques Trump Administration’s Alleged Corruption

32 minutes ago 0

Senator Ron Johnson from Wisconsin delivered a notable interview on Saturday, where he accused the Trump administration of significant corruption. The senator referred to the statements made by Calley Means, a former adviser in the Trump White House who resigned recently. During an appearance on the ‘Joe Rogan Experience’ podcast, Means accused some top aides and political strategists of aligning with specific interests, naming individuals close to President Trump. He claimed they obstructed policies favored by the Make America Healthy Again campaign.

In a conversation with Fox News, Johnson mentioned that Means provided ‘in gory detail’ the corruption within the Trump administration. He emphasized that this level of corruption extends across various government agencies, influenced by the corporations they are meant to regulate.

The White House did not provide a response initially. Discussing the Republicans’ losses in the previous elections, Johnson noted that supporters expected efforts to ‘drain the swamp.’ Instead, he suggested that the opposite occurred. He believes Republicans need to adhere to foundational principles like limited government to succeed in the 2028 elections. Johnson is working on gathering signatures to delay the Senate Republican leadership elections. He expressed the need for a thorough examination and discussion post-midterms within the conference on Fox News.

Ethics Probe in Trump’s Golf Course Legal Battle

A federal judge announced plans to appoint Jessie K. Liu, former U.S. Attorney for D.C., to investigate potential ethical breaches by lawyers from the Justice and Interior Departments. This investigation concerns a legal disagreement over the East Potomac Golf Links.

Judge Ana C. Reyes has nominated Liu as a special master to review the government’s actions in the case. The probe will cover potential violations through October 31 and will be funded by the government. Liu’s background includes serving as the District’s leading federal prosecutor from 2017 to 2020, and she currently works as a partner at Liu Shur Kravis law firm.

Judge Reyes initiated the inquiry on October 30 following several contentious proceedings, questioning whether government lawyers provided misleading or incomplete information about the golf course plans, including the planned removal of trees. The investigation may assess whether lawyers neglected to rectify inaccuracies once they became aware of them.

The Judge allowed time for the Justice Department and the plaintiffs to respond to the appointment proposal for Liu, reaffirming that no decision on misconduct has occurred yet. The government reserves the right to object to Liu’s appointment while maintaining their argument against the need for an ethics investigation.

Sen. Van Hollen on Schumer’s Leadership Role

Senator Chris Van Hollen from Maryland reinforced his call for a discussion within the Democratic caucus regarding Senator Chuck Schumer’s continued leadership. At Crooked Media’s event, Van Hollen stated the necessity for clear understanding and commitments regarding leadership responsibilities and objectives.

Van Hollen remarked to media outlets that commitments should not be granted without prior discussions. Schumer, the current minority leader, faced criticism for various actions, like cooperating with Republicans to avoid a governmental shutdown. Progressive factions advised Democrats against choosing Schumer for the majority leader role. Yet, several Democratic senators have backed Schumer’s leadership continuation.

While not seeking a leadership role, Sen.-elect Abdul El-Sayed from Michigan pledged support for Van Hollen should he pursue the position, highlighting the ongoing debate over Democratic leadership decisions.

Houston’s Policy Change on ICE Procedures

Houston Mayor John Whitmire declared a new executive order altering the protocol on how city police interact with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). The order aligns with recent Democratic electoral victories in Texas, impacting cases involving individuals linked to jailable offenses only.

The announcement sought to minimize fear and anxiety in the community, according to Whitmire. Austin’s Mayor Kirk Watson also intends to apply a similar policy, responding to new governance set to commence in January under Gov.-elect Gina Hinojosa.

Whitmire aims to create a more unified Houston, ensuring that individuals associated with new serious offenses are rightly processed while not unnecessarily involving ICE in minor infractions. Police Chief Noe Diaz clarified this adjustment following past threats to cut funding over city-ICE interactions.

Consumer Behavior Amid Holiday Shopping Season

Economic studies by Visa and Bank of America show that Americans will increase spending on holiday shopping this year, albeit cautiously due to inflation and financial concerns. As a result, consumers are favoring tangible gifts and seeking cost-effective brands.

Visa anticipates a 4.5 percent increase in holiday sales compared to last year, though inflation will absorb much of the growth. Bank of America predicts a shift in shopping patterns, with more activity happening in early or mid-December, following intense price checks and deal searching. Shoppers are aiming to balance holiday enjoyment with strategic saving and spending.
