1 hour ago 0

A private jet crash in a South Florida neighborhood on Sunday resulted in the deaths of all nine individuals on board. Among those killed was Nathalia Gadelha, a 20-year-old copilot and aspiring airline pilot who had earned recognition for her early achievements in aviation.

Nathalia Gadelha: A Rising Aviator

Gadelha’s mother and stepfather confirmed to the media that she was the copilot of the Learjet 60 that crashed in Palm Beach County. She was traveling from Texas to the Bahamas when the tragedy occurred. Nathalia had made headlines in 2023 as she obtained her private pilot’s license at 17 years old while attending West Boca Raton High School.

In a past interview, Nathalia expressed pride in her flying abilities, stating, “I definitely do brag because people say, ‘Oh, you can’t drive,’ and I’m like, ‘Yeah, but I can fly.'”

Starting her flying lessons in 2020, she gained additional experience from her father, a recreational pilot since 2018. By 2023, Nathalia had accrued 88 hours of flight time, supported by the Palm Beach County’s Aviation Academy. She later graduated from American Flyers flight school, located in Florida and Texas.

The Fatal Flight

The Learjet 60 departed from Austin-Bergstrom International Airport, Texas, heading for North Eleuthera Airport in the Bahamas. The Federal Aviation Administration noted that the crash occurred near Cresthaven, Florida, at around 12:50 p.m. on Sunday. The incident happened just nine miles away from Mar-a-Lago, resulting in a massive fireball.

Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy confirmed that all nine people aboard died in the crash. The wreckage led to Military Trail’s closure between Cresthaven Boulevard and 10th Avenue North. Local authorities advised the public to avoid the area due to intense flames.

Audio recordings from LiveATC.net captured the flight crew’s last communications, where they reported ice on the aircraft and turbulence before losing altitude. The pilot transmitted a mayday call, announcing a rapid descent rate of 10,000 feet per minute and an overspeed condition that preceded the crash.

Ongoing Investigations

Eyewitnesses described the jet nose-diving into the neighborhood. Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis referred to the incident as “cataclysmic.” The crash led to the evacuation of about 600 residents from a nearby mobile home community.

The Federal Aviation Administration, along with the National Transportation Safety Board, is investigating the crash. Although the cause remains unknown, officials plan to provide updates soon.
