Trump Announces Planned Tariffs on Canadian Goods

2 weeks ago 0

President Donald Trump declared on Monday his intention to impose 50 percent tariffs on most goods imported from Canada. This measure will take effect after 30 days if Canada does not remove trade barriers that the U.S. administration labels as ‘discriminatory’ against American products.

The announcement came during a NATO meeting held in Ankara, Turkey, earlier this month. President Trump met with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney during the meeting.

“The president said the levies will take effect in 30 days unless Canada drops what the administration called ‘discriminatory’ trade barriers against U.S. products.”

This action reflects ongoing trade tensions between the two nations, as the U.S. administration seeks fair conditions for American businesses in international markets.
