During his address, Trump recounted historical narratives, combining them with political remarks. Repeating themes from a prior event at Mount Rushmore, he criticized Democrats and called for tighter voting regulations ahead of the midterm elections. He spoke of American freedoms, stating, “Unlike so many others in the world, in this country we have freedom of speech, freedom of religion, equal justice under the law — although I wasn’t treated that well, but we won’t get into that.”
The event felt less like a national celebration and more like another stop in Trump’s political tour. Many of his usual elements, including claims of large audience draws, were present. Even the musical acts mirrored past events, with tenor Christopher Macchio performing “God Bless America” and Lee Greenwood singing “God Bless the USA.”
Despite the significance of the occasion, many entertainers declined to participate in the Trump administration’s planned anniversary celebrations, leaving a more limited lineup for the festivities.
