Trump Threatens Tariffs Against Canada Over Wildfire Smoke

In a direct social media post, Trump expressed concern over the ‘unnecessarily invaded’ air, describing it as filthy and dangerous. He announced plans to discuss these issues with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney.

The criticism from Trump coincides with concerns raised by several Republican lawmakers who blame Canada’s poor forest management for the smoke affecting millions in both countries. Trump threatened tariffs to cover the smoke-related harms.

Canadian Prime Minister Carney did not directly address these allegations. He emphasized the need for collaborative climate change efforts, stating this factor contributes significantly to the increasing severity and frequency of wildfires.

Ontario’s Premier Doug Ford showed frustration towards the complaints from U.S. lawmakers. He recalled previous instances when Ontario offered assistance during American disasters, urging the U.S. to send support rather than complaints due to the longstanding cooperation between the two nations.
