Trump’s Secret Plane Switch Due to Security Threat

President Donald Trump acknowledged that he secretly changed planes during his return from Turkey in July, citing security concerns. The decision for the covert switch was made by the Secret Service and the military. Trump explained, “They wanted me to go on a different flight, a different plane. I guess there was a threat out there.”

NBC News confirmed previous reports from The Washington Post that Trump was moved to an unmarked jet using a catering truck on July 8 after initially boarding Air Force One publicly. He traveled on this unmarked jet from Ankara to a UK base while others believed he was on Air Force One. Addressing the media, Trump remarked that the substitute plane he flew on might have faced greater risks. “I think actually the plane that I flew on was at greater risk…that would be the plane…they would be more likely to go for,” Trump commented, without elaborating why the unmarked C-32 jet might be a more likely target.

NBC News also disclosed that the plane swap was initiated amid a new Iranian plan to potentially attack Trump, with a shoulder-fired missile as a possible threat to Air Force One leaving Turkey. Left behind on the decoy plane were media members and senior White House officials, including Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, both of whom are in the presidential line of succession. Trump admitted to not seeking detailed information about the threat but noted he was not surprised by its existence. “Any consequential president has a lot of threats. I think that I may be the most consequential president,” he expressed.

Congressional Democrats are requesting a briefing from officials to detail Trump’s flight specifics from last month and any associated security threats.
