Uganda Withdraws from Invictus Games to Support UK Monarchy

56 minutes ago 0

Prince Harry’s Invictus Games, aimed at assisting wounded veterans, have faced a setback as Uganda’s military commander announced the country’s withdrawal. This decision was made to express support for King Charles III and the British monarchy.

General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the Chief of Defence Forces in Uganda, known for his outspoken views on social media, shared the news of this withdrawal on Wednesday.

Kainerugaba, son of Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni, posted on X: “In order not to be construed as being opposed to His Majesty King Charles III of the United Kingdom, whom we deeply revere, Uganda hereby withdraws from the Invictus Games. We shall not participate in anything that does not have His Majesty’s approval.”

Efforts were made to reach out to representatives of Prince Harry and the Ugandan government for their comments. Newsweek has contacted both parties for further remarks.

In the past, Kainerugaba temporarily left the social media platform X and upon his return in January 2025, he stated his intention to “shake up this world” with his statements.

This situation is ongoing and updates will be provided as new information becomes available.
