Uncertainty Looms Over LIV Golf’s Future and Jon Rahm’s Next Steps

36 minutes ago 0

The future of LIV Golf remains uncertain, with doubts surrounding the circuit’s existence beyond 2027. Many wonder where LIV players will compete next year, including Jon Rahm. Rahm has claimed the individual title each season since joining in 2024, but he is now preparing to participate in a few DP World Tour events.

At a press event for the Irish Open, Rahm shared that he has “no updates” on LIV’s future since the season concluded in August in Indianapolis. After losing funding from the Saudi Arabia Public Investment Fund (PIF) at the end of 2026, LIV Golf’s sustainability is at risk.

Scott O’Neil, LIV CEO, announced a new investor for “LIV 2.0.” Yet, there are talks of potential bankruptcy and funding issues, making the outlook unclear. Rahm maintained during the Irish Open press conference that he is fulfilling his contract with LIV 1.0 and is uncertain about his future moves.

When questioned about a return to the PGA Tour, Rahm responded, “We’ll see what happens.” His stance highlights the uncertainty surrounding potential pathways back to the PGA Tour for players who have joined LIV Golf. It is likely that some opportunities will arise for returning, particularly for prominent players like Rahm.

Rahm reportedly has a lucrative contract with LIV, yet he remains patient about receiving his full compensation, particularly given rumors surrounding LIV’s financial status. This patience will be crucial as potential bankruptcy looms.

Clearly, both Rahm and other LIV players face an ambiguous future. Until LIV’s new structure is solidified and potential pathways to the PGA Tour are clarified, players are left in a wait-and-see situation.
