3 weeks ago 0

A United Airlines flight headed to Minneapolis was diverted to Madison, Wisconsin, on Friday night. This decision came after an unruly passenger caused a security concern, requiring action from the flight crew and law enforcement.

According to an airline spokesperson, United flight 2005, traveling from Chicago to Minneapolis, safely landed in Madison to manage the situation. Carrie Springer, spokeswoman for the Dane County Regional Airport, reported that law enforcement on the flight quickly restrained the passenger. Upon landing, deputies from the Dane County Sheriff’s Office removed the passenger, and federal authorities now oversee the investigation.

Records of air traffic control communications reveal a crew member informed controllers that it took time to subdue the passenger. The aircraft, a Boeing 737, carried 147 passengers and six crew members. Fortunately, no injuries were reported during the incident.

Passenger Mike Rundle provided additional insight, stating the unruly passenger appeared to be in his 70s and seemed disoriented. Rundle recounted that the man stood as the plane was on the runway in Chicago. After being advised to sit, a request was made over the intercom for anyone who spoke Russian. A disturbance later followed, during which several passengers assisted in returning the man to his seat.

Rundle noted the man allegedly reached for a flight attendant, prompting others to restrain him. Following this, the passenger remained seated quietly for the remainder of the flight and was handcuffed upon landing in Madison. Rundle commended the flight crew for their calm and effective handling of the situation.

After addressing the incident, the flight continued to its final destination in Minneapolis, arriving early Saturday morning.
